Death of "Deepest Blue" on the South African iTunes top 100 ambient chart....

Damn... I was hoping to compete with Pink Floyd's "Dark Side Of The Moon" run on Billboards Top 200 Albums.... But...  "Deepest Blue" - one my favorite recordings I've put out there - finally fell off the South African ambient top 100 charts  - it hung in there for 3 years & 4 months.... I'm glad the folks from SA dig it... In fact, I've been a big fan of South African rock / ethnic for decades ==== Trevor Rabin, Rabbitt, Seether, Ladysmith Black Mombazo, Juluku, Johnny Clegg... etc. etc...  Karma, I guess....
As usual, lots of ideas....  I will be in ambient mode for a while - and I like it...  I anticipate 6-10 recordings in 2017 --- kinda in line with the past few years...  I feel lucky to have music ideas in my addled brain regularly ;-)

There will be a new release with Calvin Weston soon --- it was recorded a few months back - impromptu, impulsive, creative --- it is called "Hopeful Souls" owed to what I believe the world has continued to mold itself into - at the collective level...  It rocks, swings, bops, interstellars... ;-P = I am very happy with the results....  Calvin is incredible at banging on things, and I am fortunate to work with a legend at the skins...

Calvin Weston talks about our collaboration "No Zone" on WRTI (NPR) - and other projects he is working on

Last night Grant Calvin Weston did an interview with J. Michael Harrison on the Bridge jazz program on NPR affiliate WRTI in Philadelphia.  He talked about many of the musical projects he has been involved in of late from musicians he has friended on Facebook.  I am lucky enough to be on of those people.  Our collaboration "No Zone" was a blast to make - a pure improv setting.

Please listen to the audio of our part of the interview and a couple of tunes from the album below.

No Zone - a collaboration between me and legendary drummer Grant Calvin Weston (!!!!) is available at most digital retailers and at bandcamp.  An initial limited production CDr will be available in mid - September.

If you like 70s inspired fusion and absolute drum craziness - you should check out this recording.

This was a ton of fun!!!!

Well, I've had a lot of ideas percolating in my brain for a bit...  2015 yielded seven full length recordings...  Frankly, the recent ambient drone music is rather easy to make compositionally = if it sounds good, hold on to the drone....  ;-)   In 2016, I anticipate 10 to 12 recordings = I have many previously recorded sound food that are awaiting melody and rhythm --- a bunch of stuff...  I've been asked in so many words, "don't you dilute yourself with so many recordings"...  Fair enough...  Short answer, "No" - because I don't sell much for $ (and don't care to) - but I have had many download my stuff for free, and maybe they are listening... Many musicians that I have listened to for decades and/or recent phenomena that have given me a "thumbs up"...  That is all I need for "satisfaction"....  I have to express myself and need to get these "beautiful musical angels/demons" out of my head...  I don't know how long I will live, but I will always be thinking of or making music indefinitely....  I'm guilty.........................

So.....

"When Invisible Becomes Invisible" is due out in January....

Also, a series of recordings will come out with the "Awashed" moniker - focusing on ambient musical (un)structure with beautiful album photography of my daughter, Alina.  This obviously will have nods to influences such as Harold Budd, Brian Eno, Steve Roach, Robert Rich, Mathias Grassow, etc.. but - hopefully, will have its own imprint for consideration...

Greetings....

I just included links to a few new recordings "Lunasonar", "Manta Sky", "Ganga" and "Amphibialien (Remixed)"...  So - you can download for free / donate ---or--- pay retail at a whole lot of digital distribution machines on the web.   And, as you know - you can always try to steal it... ;-)

I have a pretty big amount of stuff in the pipeline that is pure ambient - much in the spirit of the latest material...   It will be dribbling out regularly for the next year...

Also - very cool...  I've been yapping a little via IM with Candice Michelle who is the goddess behind Journeyscapes online radio...  She is playing some of my material and a host of other interesting musics from the ambient, chill, electronic genres...  So, show your support and tune in to Candice's project!  You'll get beautiful music in return....

Finally, small world...  I was searching online for a musician I have listened to for years - and, find that he has been VERY busy lately.  Also, he has an online radio station "Mosty Ambient" beaming from Manchester, UK...  And, to my surprise - is playing my stuff over the waves...  Pretty wild...

Anyway - Bing Satellites' music is just gorgeous.  I have been a giant Harold Budd fan since the late 1970s and his music evokes the same kind of "aaaahhhhhh"....
