A new release, and three more ambient releases due soon....

I got word last week through my digital aggregator Distrokid (who are quite good) - that Waiting For Rain (Awashed III) is being rejected by the Apples/Amazons because I apparently am too prolific at making music...  They are afraid of flooding the market with my music...  Never mind that there are probably millions and millions of albums and songs already out there...  I am amazed that my music puts that big of a dent into the music industy.... Total bullshit...

So, Waiting For Rain (Awashed III) is available only through Bandcamp...  Bandcamp is an awesome service...

Also, coming soon....  "Color Eternal (Awashed IV)" - more ambience with Alina Naismith cover photo.  And, "Subaquatic Sun" - more ambience....  And, "Eye Sea" - tba...

Hopeful Souls - the second release with drum-god Calvin Weston

Wow.... I'm tardy... much music since the last post...

The coolest by far is the second collaboration with Calvin Weston....  I'll say it again --- unbelievable union --- he has been one of my favorite drummers since the early 80's.  Him, Ronald Shannon Jackson, Jack DeJohnette, Han Bennink, Tony Oxley.... etc etc....  However, a couple of years ago - we connected on facebook and we decided to work within a highly improv, jazz-rock-fusion music-scape.... well, not really - he supplied the drums and said "do your thang..."...  NO ZONE was the result - and it was so fun....   HOPEFUL SOULS is the latest effort - but this time, instruments from around the world seeped in along with the driving fusion...  I am very happy with both - and cosmically elated to work with one of my drum idols I was banging my head to 35+ years ago...!!!!

Death of "Deepest Blue" on the South African iTunes top 100 ambient chart....

Damn... I was hoping to compete with Pink Floyd's "Dark Side Of The Moon" run on Billboards Top 200 Albums.... But...  "Deepest Blue" - one my favorite recordings I've put out there - finally fell off the South African ambient top 100 charts  - it hung in there for 3 years & 4 months.... I'm glad the folks from SA dig it... In fact, I've been a big fan of South African rock / ethnic for decades ==== Trevor Rabin, Rabbitt, Seether, Ladysmith Black Mombazo, Juluku, Johnny Clegg... etc. etc...  Karma, I guess....
As usual, lots of ideas....  I will be in ambient mode for a while - and I like it...  I anticipate 6-10 recordings in 2017 --- kinda in line with the past few years...  I feel lucky to have music ideas in my addled brain regularly ;-)

There will be a new release with Calvin Weston soon --- it was recorded a few months back - impromptu, impulsive, creative --- it is called "Hopeful Souls" owed to what I believe the world has continued to mold itself into - at the collective level...  It rocks, swings, bops, interstellars... ;-P = I am very happy with the results....  Calvin is incredible at banging on things, and I am fortunate to work with a legend at the skins...

Calvin Weston talks about our collaboration "No Zone" on WRTI (NPR) - and other projects he is working on

Last night Grant Calvin Weston did an interview with J. Michael Harrison on the Bridge jazz program on NPR affiliate WRTI in Philadelphia.  He talked about many of the musical projects he has been involved in of late from musicians he has friended on Facebook.  I am lucky enough to be on of those people.  Our collaboration "No Zone" was a blast to make - a pure improv setting.

Please listen to the audio of our part of the interview and a couple of tunes from the album below.
